Australian training provider launches skilling for Retail jobs

Retail is currently the hottest growing employment sector in India and successful careers are being carved by young energetic employees with the skills to achieve results in this dynamic sector.

Leading Australian retail training provider First Impressions Resources (fir) has brought its expertise in building retail capability to one of the world’s fastest growing retail markets with the opening of the Australian Retail College India in Hyderabad, India, today.

The Australian Retail College (India) is a joint venture between GREAT (India); India’s first and foremost Retail Management specialist B School and First Impressions Resources; Australia’s premier retail training organisation since 1988, the organisation is built on a commitment to industry-led skill development.

ARC India Director Sue Freeman has been based in Hyderabad for the last three months establishing the initial five sites in Hyderabad, Kurnool, Vijayawada, Vizag and Tirupati. Today’s opening represents the first phase in a pan-India plan.

“India will require an additional 17 million retail staff by 2022 and the changes to FDI in retail brings with it a demand for talented staff with internationally relevant skills. The rapid growth in demand for staff in the sector and the subsequent skilling of these people to a globally competitive level will continue to be a real challenge for India’s retail sector in the future,” Ms Freeman says.

ARC has spent several years working with retailers in India to determine the suitability of the Australian retail training programs for the Indian retail sector and has adapted the content, delivery method and program structure to suit the Indian retail sectors requirements.

“The Australian model of working closely with Industry to ensure our programs deliver work ready staff and that our trainers have current industry experience is a real point of difference in our approach to education and skills delivery” said Rajendra Nadella, Director and partner in the venture.
